What makes one vanilla candle completely different to another? The answer is the fragrance notes, these are like music and work together in symphony to create beautiful aromas. In this post, We will teach you how each scent layer contributes to the character and uniqueness of a scented candle. Making choosing your next candle easier! What are fragrance notes? Fragrance notes are the different scents that are detected in a candle when it is burned. Candles are most often made with multiple notes that layer together to create a unique scent. There are 3 main categories of fragrance notes, Top, middle or heart and base notes. You will see on our fragrance list and product pages an explanation of what notes are in each fragrance. Top Notes Top notes are the first scents that you'll notice when you light a scented candle. Known as opening notes , they are usually light and refreshing and evaporate soonest include scents such as citrus, herbs, and light fruits. Middle / Heart Notes The Heart notes are as they suggest the heart of the fragrance, they develop as the top notes begin to dissipate and transition the fragrances smoothly from top to base. The heart notes make the foundation of a scent and give the candle its character and uniqueness. Heart notes last much longer than the top notes. Common heart notes are florals and spices and include scents like neroli, rose and nutmeg. Base Notes Base notes last the longest and create a complex and deep fragrance. The base and heart notes work together to form the main aromas of your scented candle. Once all of the other notes have evaporated the base notes remain and give you the lasting impression of the candle fragrance. These are the fragrances that linger in the room once the candle has been extinguished. Common base notes include vanilla, sandalwood and patchouli. When it comes to wax melts and candles, There is a lot of debate on which wax is best. While personal preferences vary, I strongly believe that having the right information is key to making an informed choice. As the founder of Kind Melts I put a lot of effort into looking into the best type of wax to use. I wanted something that would not only give customers a product they would love but also one that they would feel good about using. While some companies tout their products as being eco-friendly by using soy wax, I looked into how soy farming affects deforestation and decided this was not the most sustainable of options. Likewise, palm wax was crossed off the list because of its impact on the planet's natural resources. Then there was paraffin and beeswax. Beeswax is natural yes, but I wanted to enable Kind Melts to be available to a diverse range of people ( beeswax not being a vegan product ) and paraffin due to wanting to keep the products as natural as possible. My primary goal with Kind Melts was to offer a sustainable alternative to other products on the market. I chose to use a blend of coconut and rapeseed wax because it is a more environmentally conscious choice. This wax is a very clean burning, plant-based wax that's fully biodegradable and GMO-free. It gives our eco wax melts and scented candles a creamy, luxurious texture that's hard to beat. Although this wax is more expensive than some others in my opinion its well worth the expense! It holds the fragrance extremely well and the low melting point results to the fragrance being released quickly. Kind Melts organic hand and body wash is finally here! Fed up with the amount of plastic bottles in my bathroom, I decided to develop a new range of hand & body wash to compliment the existing Kind Melts products. I'm going to tell you a little more about the organic hand & body wash, but don't take my word for it! I'll also add the latest customer feedback from Facebook. Lets start with style. Before we even get to the goodies inside, let me tell you about the packaging. Kind Melts hand & body wash comes in a stylish, smoky amber glass bottle. Not only picked for its timeless, classic style but also for its eco quality. Refill and reuse this bottle again and again and when you fancy a change you can either recycle or repurpose it. (Our refills will be available in the near future) Notice the logo label on the front of the bottle? It looks plastic doesn't it, but is actually a compostable film made from wood pulp from renewable resources. It looks and feels like plastic but is made from sustainable materials. A kinder option. As with all Kind Melts products kindness and nature are at the forefront of my mind when developing products. The hand and body wash contains 74% organic ingredients. Coconut derivatives form the base of the majority of Kind Melts products so why should we stop there. The base recipe of the hand and body wash is also made with coconut oils and has wonderful fruit extracts for added skin benefits. Here are some of the benefits of these fabulous ingredients. Coconut surfactants - Made from the fatty acids of coconut oil. These are gentle, foamy but effective cleansers which don't dry out the skin. Bilberry fruit extract - For skin benefits including cleansing, tightening, and nourishing. Bilberry is hydrating, an antiseptic and full of antioxidants to help strengthen and protect the skin. Mango fruit extract - Antioxidant properties and rich in vitamins to help hydrate and improve the skin tone. Dyes and glitters Yes sometimes they're attractive in body washes but is there any point to them, especially in a coloured bottle. Kind Melts decided to just keep with the natural colouring. Lilial - You may be aware that the EU has banned Lilial in cosmetic products on the market. The UK hasn't put this into place as yet but it will be coming very soon. All of Kind Melts bath and body products do not and have never contained Lilial. And finally. My personal opinion. Yes I am biased but I do use my own products, if it was not good enough for my family and I, then I wouldn't be selling it to others. It feels amazing on the skin, froths really well and has enough fragrance to leave the skin smelling wonderful. What customers have said. Wow guys just had the most amazing shower I've had since before my son was born. The water element body wash I got was awesome, the smell filled the room and I could actually feel myself relaxing. I actually wanted to stay in there for hours and probably would have if not for the hot water running out seriously 10/10 Now I've tried the fire body wash and I'm just as addicted to that I thought it might be quite a manly smell as a body wash but it's really not its warming and soothing. The Guild of Craft Soap and Toiletry Makers is a peer support network which provides information and guidelines about handmade soap crafting and the UK and EU legislation that regulates the cosmetics and toiletries industry. To become a member of The GCSTM the manufacturer must demonstrate that their products have been safety assessed and approved for sale by a chartered chemist in line with the Cosmetics Regulations and that they hold relevant insurance. The two main aims of the Guild are to raise awareness of the cosmetics safety regulations. This is the legislation that sets standards to ensure that products and the ingredients placed on the cosmetics market are safe for use by the general public. To register as members of the Guild, crafters who work in compliance with the Cosmetics Regulations. If you are unsure if the product holds a safety assessment when purchasing soaps, cosmetics or bath and body products, ask the seller. A manufacturer who is compliant with regulations will be happy to provide you evidence that the products have been safety assessed. 24th July 2021 is International self care day, it focuses on the self care promise. It encourages people to make a commitment to their well being. We all know how easy it is to forget about your own self care with todays busy lifestyles, with family or work commitments. I always encourage my own family and friends to take time out to care for themselves and that its ok to do so, you won't be any good to anyone if you burn yourself out. So heres some ideas for a self care makeover.. Go for a walk. One of the simplest things to do to have a positive impact on your mental and physical health. It doesn't have to be a fast pace strenuous walk, just a few minutes outdoors in the fresh air can be of benefit. Sleep. Getting a good nights sleep helps keep your immune system at its best. Switch off those screens, Light a candle, relax in a warm bath salts bath and then hit the sack for some Zzz. Take some time for yourself. Read a book, binge that Netflix series, spend some time pampering yourself, Bake, dance, sing, put your favourite wax melts on .. Do whatever you enjoy doing once a week you deserve some time out.
