Wax Removal FAQ's Q. I've spilt wax on my clothes how can I remove it? A. For sturdy fabrics like cotton or linen:  Pop the item of clothing into the freezer to harden the wax and then scrape it off. Then, place the fabric between paper towels and gently iron over it on a low setting. The heat from the iron will melt the wax, and the paper towels will then absorb it. Don't forget to change the paper towel frequently to prevent the wax from spreading on the item. For delicate fabrics like silk or lace:  Avoid using heat and use the freezer method or place an ice pack ( or a bag of frozen veg! ) on the wax to harden it, then gently scrape it off. If you're unsure then it's advisable to test the method on a small area first, alternatively seek out a professional cleaner. Q. I knocked over a candle, How do I remove wax from a carpet? A. Natural materials like wool or cotton:  Natural fibres are more sensitive to heat so its best to use the ice method to harden the wax and then scrape it off. Synthetic materials like nylon or polyester:  You can use the ice method or a hairdryer on the lowest setting to gently melt the wax, blotting regularly with a clean cloth or paper towel. Make sure to keep the hairdryer moving to avoid scorching the carpet. Q. Can I use baking soda to remove wax from my table? A. Sure! Baking soda is a great natural cleanser for hard surfaces like wood or tile. After removing the excess wax with the ice or hairdryer method, Mix some baking soda with a little bit of water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the wax and let it sit for a few minutes, then gently wipe with a damp cloth. Prevention is always better than cure! Here are a few tips to avoid those wax-idents. Keep candles and wax warmers away from drafts.  Drafts can cause the flame to flicker and splatter wax. Use a candle snuffer.  Extinguishing your candle flame with a candle snuffer will avoid wax splattering from blowing it out. Careful placement.  Always place candles and wax warmers on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Let it set.  Ensure your candle or wax melt has cooled and solidified before moving it. I am often asked whether the products are Phthalate free, That's why I wanted to shed some light on the topic of phthalates in fragrance and explain why Kind Melts chooses to be phthalate-free. What are Phthalates? Why are They Used in Fragrance? Phthalates are a group of chemicals often used in fragrances to help prolong the scent and keep the fragrance stable. But research has raised some concerns about their potential effects on our health, which is why we choose to avoid them altogether. Phthalates and Potential Health Issues. Studies suggest that phthalates can interact with the endocrine system, which is responsible for regulating hormones in our body. This disruption can have the potential to lead to various health issues, which is why it's important to be mindful and lessen our exposure to them. There are many different types of phthalates, Some of the most common ones that you might find in fragrances and other products include: Diethyl phthalate (DEP):  Often used to blend scents and make them last longer. Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP):  Can be found in some fragrance oils, especially those used in low cost products. It's also widely used in plastics. Di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP):  Commonly found in nail polish and plastics. So let's look at Diethyl Phthalate since it is found is a large amount of fragranced products. Diethyl Phthalate is currently deemed safe but there have been concerns raised in recent studies on the safety. Diethyl Phthalate is found in many fragranced products, from perfumes and skincare to candles. It's commonly found in fragrance oils, which are often used in home fragrance products like wax melts and diffusers. Why is Diethyl Phthalate used in fragrance? Cost:  Diethyl Phthalate is a cheaper additive compared to other fragrance ingredients. Scent fixative:  It does a good job of making fragrances last longer. Versatile:  It can be used in a wide range of fragrance applications. However, there's a growing concern about the potential health effects of DEP, even at low levels. Does Phthalate Free Fragrance Last ? You might be thinking, If Kind Melts products are phthalates free, will the fragrance in their products still be strong and long-lasting? I'd ask the same, and the answer is absolutely, and our many customers over the years would agree! Since the beginning of Kind Melts I have worked hard to source high quality fragrance and alternative ingredients to ensure Kind Melts provides strong and lasting scents without relying on the use of phthalates.
