Electric wax warmers provide a safe, consistent and beautiful way to fragrance your home. To help you get the most out of your wax melts & warmer, we’ve put together a quick guide on wax warmer care. From getting a strong scent throw to easily removing old wax, here is everything you need to know.

How long should you leave an electric wax warmer on?

The ideal time to leave an electric wax warmer on is just until your home is filled with fragrance, usually around 2 to 4 hours. While the warmer itself can safely run much longer, leaving it on continuously once your space already smells amazing simply wastes your wax melt fragrance.

Our eco wax melts are formulated with high quality fragrance oils, which include natural identical components and essential oils. These beautiful aromas are designed to release powerfully when heated. If you leave the warmer running continuously for 10 or 12 hours, the constant heat will rapidly evaporate the fragrance. It can also lead to going nose blind where you stop noticing the scent even though it is still burning off.

Once the wax is fully melted and your room reaches peak fragrance, simply switch the warmer off. The wax will cool and harden, safely trapping the remaining scent inside for your next use.

Does turning an electric warmer off and on use more electricity?

No, turning your warmer off and re-melting the wax later is much more energy efficient and preserves your fragrance. Electric warmers use very low wattage bulbs or small internal heating elements, meaning they do not require a massive surge of power to warm up from a cold start. Leaving the warmer on all day just to keep the wax liquid uses unnecessary electricity and shortens the life of your melts.

Where is the best place to put an electric wax warmer?

The safest and most effective spot for your electric wax warmer is on a flat, heat resistant surface away from open windows, drafts and out of reach of children or pets. Finding the perfect location is about balancing safety with the best possible scent throw. If you place your warmer right next to a breezy doorway or an open window, the beautiful fragrance will simply blow outside before it ever has a chance to fill your room.

Instead, tuck it into a cosy corner of your living room, on a side table or along an interior hallway wall where the air gently circulates. Just make sure the cord is placed safely to avoid tripping, and ensure the warmer isn't sitting directly under any low hanging curtains or soft furnishings.

Will I lose the scent if I let the wax melt harden?

Letting your wax harden actually saves your scent for longer. It is true that when you turn the warmer back on, it will take about 10 to 15 minutes for the wax to re melt and the scent to build back up in the room. However, if you leave the warmer running all day just to avoid that short wait, the oils are constantly evaporating into the air. Switching it off traps the remaining fragrance oils safely in the hardened wax, ensuring your wax melts give you more value.

How do you easily remove old wax from an electric warmer?

The easiest and cleanest way to remove old wax is to let it harden, gently heat the warmer for a minute or two, and slide the solid wax melt out. Instead of dealing with hot liquid wax, simply let your wax cool and solidify completely. When you are ready to change your scent, turn your electric warmer on for just 1 to 2 minutes. The gentle heat will slightly warm the very bottom layer of the wax, loosening its grip on the dish. You can then apply light pressure to the edge of the wax and slide the solid wax melt out in one clean, mess free piece. Give the dish a quick wipe with a dry cloth and you are ready for a fresh wax melt!
